All artists work primarily out of the Red Barn Art Center. The Center houses a large 1,125 square foot sculpture and painting studio, a gallery and performance space, and a non-toxic intaglio printmaking studio. Writers can be accomodated in the Goldwell House in Beatty.
What are the facilities like?
The Red Barn Art Center is a rustic facility with a cement floor and an open rafter ceiling. Water is trucked to the site and restroom facilities are spartan. Two industrial swamp coolers provide cooling for the building during hot summer months. The Barn hosts a large work/exhibition/performance space and a fully equipped intaglio printmaking studio. Presently, satellite intent access is available.
Supported residents and Workspace residents may lodge at no additional charge in Goldwell House, a 2,000 sq. ft., three-bedroom, two-bath house in Beatty. The house has a full kitchen, air-conditioning , garage and common areas. All linens and kitchen wares are provided, but residents are responsible for their own food and cooking. Laundry facilities are also available. Goldwell House also has a 1,00 sq. ft. air conditioned garage which can serve as an additional work space.
Selected residents receive a residency manual which describes the local environment in more detail. Suffice it to say, the residency is located in a very small town in Nevada and grocery, dining and entertainment options are unique to the area. Most residents find the “challenges” of the area an asset to the experience.” Lodging is also available in nearby Beatty (four miles east) in a variety of modestly-priced motels and RV parks at your expense.
